Food contact materials

Food contact materials (abbreviated as FCM) are materials that are intended to be in contact with food. These can be things that are quite obvious like a glass, a can for soft drinks, but also machinery in a food factory or a coffee machine. More examples of FCM products include but are not limited to: food packaging and wrapping, kitchen utensil, cutlery, food processing machinery, electric kitchen appliance, etc.

FCM mainly include plastic, resin, rubber, silica gel, metal, alloy, paper, cardboard, glass, porcelain, enamel, colorant, and printing ink.

In China, FCM are regulated by the Food Safety Law of the People’s Republic of China, the law was amended most recently on December 29, 2018. FCM are also regulated by other applicable rules and regulations.
